THE STORY OF ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL is the film for which Don Ameche will be best remembered, despite his Oscar-winning performance in COCOON more than 40 years later. The film opens in 1873 with Alexander Graham Bell (Ameche) trying to earn his living by working with deaf-mutes while spending his off-hours inventing. Bell is soon enamored of a pretty young Scot (Loretta Young) whom he has been asked to teach. They fall in love, and she asks her father to unbuckle his copious money belt to back one of Bell's inventions.
