Hutton, a struggling hatcheck girl at the Stork Club, saves Fitzgerald from a drowning accident. When she pulls him from the water, she learns that he is really a multimillionaire. As a reward, Fitzgerald sets her up in a life of luxury in her own penthouse apartment. DeFore, her bandleader beau, returns from the service and mistakenly thinks that his gal gave something to Fitzgerald in exchange for the goodies. He soon learns he is wrong, and the pair live happily ever after. This lighthearted chronicle of life and times at this legendary New York eatery and nightclub is an occasion to showcase the musical comedy talents of Hutton, whose peppy charm and singing style were becoming more and more popular. Songs include: "Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief" (Hoagy Carmichael, Paul Francis Webster, sung by Betty Hutton), "Baltimore Oriole" (Carmichael, Webster), "I'm a Square in the Social Circle" (Jay Livingston, Ray Evans, sung by Hutton), "If I Had a Dozen Hearts" (Webster, Harry Revel, sung by Hutton, Andy Russell), "Love Me" (Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne), "China Boy" (Dick Winfree, Phil Boutelje), and "In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree" (Harry H. Williams, Egbert Van Alstyne). leave a comment
