A well-crafted espionage thriller set in Japan which stars Wagner as Mark Fannon, a US Intelligence agent hired to protect an American ambassador (Keating) from assassination. The problem is that the ambassador doesn't believe that anyone is really trying to kill him. Fannon proves his point when he discovers and disposes of a bomb meant for the ambassador, which had been planted by crazed American communist George Underwood (O'Brien). Although Fannon is the consummate intelligence agent, he can't keep a girl friend. Sexy young Tina (Collins), walks out on him claiming that he is more in love with his job than with her. A standard espionage thriller which was, surprisingly, based on one of author John P. Marquand's "Mr. Moto" stories. Since it would take a long stretch of the imagination to envision all-American boy Robert Wagner as an Asian sleuth, the Moto character was scrapped in favor of a quintessential American agent. leave a comment
