A box-office smash down under, this poorly scripted biker movie has enough action to keep one's interest even if there are plot holes big enough to drive a semi through. After a political assassination and a rash of biker deaths, Shorter, a narcotics cop, is assigned to the investigation. He befriends the gang members and soon discovers that another gang is responsible. He grows to respect the bikers but in the end is beaten to a bloody pulp by them. The film's main fault is that it doesn't explain much. It postulates the existence of a sort of biker moral code that the audience is asked to accept as an article of faith. Fast-paced direction and expertly photographed motorcycle scenes are a plus. Acting is good, and many of the characters are played by real-life Australian bikers. leave a comment
