A far-fetched but entertaining romance has Dix, a thief known as "Stingaree," falling in love with Australian opera singer Dunne. Dix isn't your normal bandit, however. He steals just for the sake of stealing. His climactic scam is snatching the uniform of governor general Owen and masquerading as the governor during a concert of Dunne's, after which he kidnaps the singer.
