An adaptation of a London stage play, this film is claustrophobic and stiff. Based on the life and poetry of British poet Stevie Smith, the film boasts some admirable performances but is otherwise lifeless. Jackson, the poet, lives in a mundane apartment, the sole setting for the action,
with her aunt, Washbourne, who serves almost entirely as a sounding board for her niece's expository dialog.
