After producing a number of films for director Richard Mulligan, the late Alan J. Pakula made his own directorial debut with this somber and understated youth-oriented tearjerker. Liza Minnelli stars as a kooky, motherless waif who attaches herself to a shy young man from a neighboring college (Wendell Burton). Both Minnelli and the film's theme song, "Come Saturday Morning," were nominated for Oscars. Read the complete review for The Sterile Cuckoo
