Given the choice between communism and capitalism, Melvyn Douglas chooses the former. Cast as a red in Paris, he takes a shot at a banker and is pursued by the police. He ducks into the apartment of Young, who lets him use her place as a shelter. She soon reveals that she is the banker's ex-wife.
