Nastassia Kinski and Marcello Mastroianni star in this frothy but erotic tale of incest contemplated and committed. He plays 50-year-old Giulio, and she is 18-year-old Francesca, who, he discovers after they've begun an affair, is the daughter of the woman who left him sitting in a movie theater 18 years earlier--meaning that he may or may not be Francesca's father. Giulio agonizes over the moral ramifications of their coupling, while the effervescent Francesca is more interested in getting down to monkey business. Despite the limitations of the script, Mastroianni delivers a well-rounded portrayal of man who is as troubled as he is titillated, but except for Kinski fans always anxious to see more of her, STAY AS YOU ARE doesn't have much appeal.
