One of Blake Edwards' earliest scripts, STAMPEDE is uncharacteristic of the lighthearted comedies that would become the writer-director's mainstay. Cameron and Castle play cattle-baron brothers who find their territory impinged upon when the government opens up surrounding lands to
homesteaders. But all the water is on the brothers' land, which leads crooks Curtis and Eldredge to come up with a plan to swindle the settlers and cause problems for Cameron. Plenty of action and good characterizations help when inadequate pacing lets the plot down.
