One could probably benefit from a scorecard in order to keep up with all the romantic intrigues in this story. Against a Middle East background a baroness from Germany falls in love with an officer of the French military. Meanwhile, her husband also loves another and tries to catch his wife in a compromising position to gain custody of their child in a divorce. The Frenchman kills him before the plan can be carried out, taking with him evidence which could harm his beloved. But no one ends up happy, as the surviving lovers are apart at the finale.
