Several stagecoach passengers are held captive by Mexican bandits, led by Hoyos, as the bandits wait for the arrival of a shipment of gold. Slowly the passengers and their pasts are unveiled, via flashback, as they face certain death. But ex-Cavalry officer Tucker gets a spark of courage
to organize his fellow passengers and outwit the bandits. Although the plot takes a long time to develop, the performances and the focus on characterizations hold enough interest to make for worthy entertainment. Cinematographer Strenge earned an Oscar nomination for his work here.
