St. Helens

1981, Movie, PG, 90 mins

On May 18, 1980, after much anticipation, Mt. St. Helen's, an active volcano in Washington State, finally erupted. Capitalizing quickly on the disaster, this cheapie was realized just a year after the event. Carney plays Harry Truman, the real-life man who refused to leave his home despite the imminent disaster. Surrounded by stock characters, Carney's performance makes this film--although the best reason to see ST. HELENS is the fantastic footage of the volcano's eruption. Other than that, the film is highly fictionalized melodrama without much substance. leave a comment
