Square Dance

Using the familiar positions of the square dance as its central metaphor, this coming-of-age story is sincere but unexceptional. Gemma Dillard (Winona Ryder), a God-fearing 13-year-old, lives with her crotchety grandfather (Jason Robards, Jr.) in Twilight, Texas. Her life is turned upside down when her absent mother, Juanelle (Jane Alexander), returns one morning and wants to take Gemma back with her to Ft. Worth.
