The Spiral Staircase

1975, Movie, NR, 89 mins

This anemic remake of the 1946 thriller wastes the talents of Bisset and Plummer. Bisset is a mute nurse (luckily saving her from mumbling the inane dialog) who is caring for an old invalid. Lurking in the house, however, is a crazed killer. None of this is at all scary, especially since it is set in the densely populated suburbs instead of the isolated house of the original version, a film that should not have been remade in the first place. leave a comment

I’m stumped and no one knows what I’m talking about, except for one person who said Alfred Hitchcock directed it. Can you help?Answer: Sure. What you saw wasn’t a movie but a 1965 episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1962-1965) — though Alfred Hitchcock himself didn’t direct it — called An Unlocked Window. It was directed by Joseph Newman, based on Ethel Lina White’s 1933 novel Some Must Watch read more
