Spartacus: Review

One of the last of the great sword-and-sandal epics, and quite possibly the best. Director Stanley Kubrick was brought in by star Kirk Douglas, and while it isn't typical of the director's later work (although the first half does have a decidedly satiric tone) it's still a remarkable film. Douglas is Spartacus, a rebellious Thracian slave who learns the meaning of human dignity and helps to lead a revolt. With Laurence Olivier, Tony Curtis, Jean Simmons and Charles Laughton.
