Business entrepreneur Andrews pays Segal, a penniless American geologist, and several other experts and fortune hunters to uncover a large diamond, known as the "Southern Star." Segal, along with his companion, Sekka, finds the diamond and takes it back to Andrews. During a party held to
celebrate the find, the lights go out. When they come back on, the diamond and Sekka have disappeared. Accused of being in on the theft, Segal takes off after Sekka, intent on retrieving the diamond. As a bonus he hopes to get the girl, Andress. Segal is followed by Hendry and his men, who intend
to secure the diamond for themselves, but Segal is able to bring back the diamond, and Andrews consents to the engagement of Segal and Andress.
