When the ranch jointly owned by a trio of Texans--McCrea, Scott, and Kennedy--is torched by Jory and his band of Union partisans at the start of the Civil War, Kennedy signs on with the Confederate army, while McCrea and Scott get tangled up in a gun-running scheme. They meet Smith, a
