Director-producer-screenwriter Blake Edwards shared scripting honors in this lighthearted picture featuring Rooney as a hard-nosed entertainer who, to his surprise, is inducted into the Army. He gets involved in a series of mishaps, but all turns out well in the end, with Rooney becoming a troop entertainer. The pace is lively, and the material is tailored to Rooney's special talents. Edwards scripted several films for director Quines, including RAINBOW ROUND MY SHOULDER; MY SISTER EILEEN; and OPERATION MADBALL. Since his debut as a film director in 1955, Edwards has directed and produced several successful movies, including DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES; A SHOT IN THE DARK; BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S; 10; and a series of "Pink Panther" films. leave a comment
