Russian operetta has Zabotkina play a professor who lives with her father in a typically small apartment. Happiness touches their household as they get to move to larger living quarters. Also to move are Zhivankova, who has Vasilyev chasing her, and newly married Khotuntseva and Bortnikov.
Their happiness quickly fades when it turns out their superintendent will not give them the keys to the apartments. After some digging, Zabotkina finds out that a minor official has been permitted to expand his apartment to include theirs. With help from friends, they right the wrong that has
befallen them. Now everyone can enjoy a peaceful existence in the new building.
