Special US Marshal LaRue and his comical sidekick St. John ride into Star City, assigned to clear the town of a group of bandits headed by "El Sombre," a mystery man. Ambushed by the bandits, the two fight them off. Once in town, St. John heads for the office of dentist Whalen to have an aching tooth pulled; LaRue meets the sheriff, Harvey, of whom he quickly becomes suspicious.
