Solaris

Perhaps the most accessible of Tarkovsky's films, certainly free of the overbearing portentousness that would mark later work like THE SACRIFICE. The story concerns a cosmonaut who travels to a distant space station on Solaris. No ordinary planet, Solaris is in fact a superintelligent being capable of giving material form to human desires. Slow, but ravishingly beautiful and charged with a real poignancy.
