Small-town teenager Connie (Laura Dern) plays with the fire of her newly discovered sexuality and finds herself in the midst of a sexual power play. Connie is an awkward teenager who spends her summer vacation hanging out with her girl friends--all in the hope of finding boys. Her prime goal is to lose her virginity. At home, however, Connie is still treated like a little girl. Holding the reins the tightest is her angry, nagging mother (Mary Kay Place).
