Smashing The Rackets

1938, Movie, NR, 65 mins

starstarstarstar
Loosely based on the career of Thomas E. Dewey, the district attorney responsible for cleaning up the New York rackets, who went on to become governor and an unsuccessful presidential candidate. A lot of heroics are offered, none of which seem very realistic, but the pace is built up to gloss over these inadequacies. Morris is miscast in the lead, lacking the ruggedness needed for such a part. Other performances are little more than caricatures of inarticulate hoodlums. leave a comment
