In her first starring role, Susan Hayward portrays the character that was to become her trademark: the fallen woman struggling to come back. She plays a successful nightclub singer who gives it all up to marry a singer/songwriter (Lee Bowman), but as his career flourishes, she takes greater and greater solace in alcohol.
