Askew plays a lonely disc jockey broadcasting from the backwoods of Alberta who gets involved with the very emotional Oatman. The girl leaves his life as quickly as she enters it, forcing Askew to contend with isolation again. This time he cracks, with the added push provided by radio
producer Rill, and resorts to burning his station down. There is little in any of these characters worth liking, since they are portrayed as stereotypes. Combined with an extremely isolating environment created through the photography of Alberta and the manipulation of the soundtrack, the results
are pretty heavy going.
