Slightly Honorable

Two attorneys, John Webb (O'Brien) and Russell Sampson (Crawford), decide to take advantage of some under-the-table political dealing in the highway department to gain some business. Alma Brehmer (Dodd), a pretty divorcee involved in the scandal, is found dead with a knife in her back, and fat-cat politico Cushing (Arnold) frames Webb, whose problems are compounded when his secretary is killed in the same manner. O'Brien sets out to solve the murders, but finds himself getting into deeper trouble with each step. This old-fashioned and not entirely successful detective story is burdened by too many cliches, and Tay Garnett's direction never pulls the material togeth...
