Curtis Harrington managed to out-do his own What's the Matter with Helen? in the twisted department with this bizarre reworking of the classic story of Hansel and Gretel. Shelly Winters, in a wonderfully hammy performance, stars as an ex-music hall singer who has become a recluse since the death of her only daughter, whose remains she keeps in a cradle. Weird fun. Question: I remember seeing a movie, I think made in the '60s, about a mother who for some reason is holding her son's fiancée/girlfriend hostage in a basement or cage or something like that.
