Sydney Pollack's directorial debut is a taut, carefully constructed drama that's based on a real-life incident. Sidney Poitier stars as a volunteer at a medical clinic who receives a call from a distraught woman (Anne Bancroft); she's just swallowed an overdose of sleeping pills but won't reveal her location.
