When a mysterious radioactive satellite appears over the US, the US and USSR governments take action. Despite the suspicion and errors on both sides that nearly cause WW III, eventually the two superpowers work together to stop the satellite, which then disappears as mysteriously as it
arrived. The story is often engrossing, with good direction that achieves a sense of drama and urgency. Contrary to what the film seems to be at the outset, however--an antimilitary or pacifist film--it actually glorifies the military and all its hardware. The movie was made with the assistance of
the French navy, and the carrier "Clemenceau" served as the main set.
