Ernest Hemingway's spare, somewhat grim short story "My Old Man" is here turned into something resembling THE CHAMP on horseback. Though Hemingway's story was considerably altered and expanded to fit a feature-length film, the resulting picture retains much of the basic flavor of the author's work.
