Under My Skin

Ernest Hemingway's spare, somewhat grim short story "My Old Man" is here turned into something resembling THE CHAMP on horseback. Though Hemingway's story was considerably altered and expanded to fit a feature-length film, the resulting picture retains much of the basic flavor of the author's work. Dan Butler (John Garfield), a crooked jockey who has been barred from racing in the US and Italy, flees to France with his son, Joe (Orley Lindgren), barely escaping death at the hands of a gangster.
