Garland is a writer who decides to hang out in the Los Angeles slum areas so she can absorb the atmosphere for a book project. She meets Nielsen, a denizen of the area who lives in a beat-up trailer. Garland discovers that the man is also a writer who possesses a number of well-written manuscripts. She takes the manuscripts to Maross, a literary critic, and tries to promote Nielsen as a great new talent.
