Autry's first postwar film features one of his more unusual plots. He is spotted by talent scout Roberts, who whisks him off to Hollywood for a starring role in a new western musical. It turns out this picture is an animated cartoon and Autry's "starring role" is the voice of a singing
donkey. Naturally the cattleman is more than a little upset at being tricked, and he heads home for some real western action. Seems some bad guys want to blow up his dam and drown all his livestock. This is stopped, thanks to Roberts' warning, and all is righted between Autry and the film studio.
How Roberts knew about the dam explosion is one of the film's more outrageous flaws, but...
