An Oxford scholar investigating an archeological find known as the Kytang Wafers is found murdered. When the Kytang Wafers disappear an investigation is conducted among his collegues at the Oriental Research Institute. Bentley, an inspector from Scotland Yard, first suspects Young, then learns from Ellis that Allen, a Korean war veteran, is secretly commiserating with the Kytang ambassador.
