Lane plays an aristocratic young woman of the 1870s who finds herself in trouble after her ne'er-do-well gambling father (Pallette) passes away. He leaves her numerous debts and has gambled away a rich silver mine. The deed for the mine is later won by Brent in a poker game, and he falls for Lane when he discovers the origins of his prize. She's marrying Cabot, though, a man who can give her back the social standing she once held. Brent gives the deed to Cabot as a present for the bride, but she never sees it. Lane decides to run off to the West and open a saloon called the "Silver Queen." She is able to pay off the family debts with the money she sends back entrusted to Cabot. Cabot uses the money to look for more silver in the mine, though, and it's up to Brent to right all the wrongs. Typical western material with standard direction and a somewhat overblown budget for a B picture. The film earned Oscar nominations for Best Interior Decoration and Best Score. leave a comment
