Great light entertainment based on Ernst Lubitsch's classic screen comedy Ninotchka and featuring the music of Cole Porter. Fred Astaire stars as a Hollywood film producer in Paris who pursuades a touring Soviet composer (Wim Sonneveld) to remain in France and score his film. Back in the U.S.S.R., Commissar Vassili Markovitch (George Tobias) sends first a trio of underlings (Peter Lorre, Jules Munshin, Joseph Buloff), who easily fall prey to the capitalist charms of Paris, then exemplary Communist Ninotchka (Cyd Charisse) to retrieve the composer.
