Silence

A story of blackmail and murder with lurid elements involving a "love child," which was a risque topic for audiences in the early 1930s. The complicated tale, told in flashback, stars Brook as a man imprisoned for killing his partner, who was trying to double-cross him. It was actually Shannon who shot his partner, but Brook takes the rap for Shannon, who is his illegitimate daughter. Brook never reveals his true identity to Shannon, allowing her to live out her life believing she is the daughter of Robertson. Starrett, as Shannon's fiance, gives a good performance here and would soon become a highly successful movie cowboy.
