In an effort to recapture the success of THE THIRTEENTH GUEST (1932), Allied Pictures reunited Ginger Rogers and Lyle Talbot with producer M.H. Hoffman, director Albert Ray, and writer Frances Hyland for another murder mystery. Pat Morgan (Rogers) and Ted Rand (Talbot) are rival newspaper reporters who also happen to be sweethearts. Both scribes use a variety of clever methods to "scoop" each other on big stories. The duo teams up to solve a series of murders perpetrated by a killer who leaves behind a calling card bearing a drawing of a coiled snake. Well-written and competently directed, this film, which Allied shot on the borrowed RKO lot, might have been totally forgotten by now if it were not for the appearance of Ginger Rogers. leave a comment
