Hudson and Norris play a young mechanic and his wife out for a drive. During a sudden storm, the couple take their baby and rush into a seemingly abandoned home. Unfortunately, this is really the hideout of kidnappers led by Cabot. Cabot wants to kill the newcomers, but his henchman, Romero, convinces him not to. The crooks have Norris go to town and spend some of their stolen money to see if they've been given marked bills. He returns and apparently the answer is no, though this is indeed marked cash. This is soon discovered and three gang members flee. Two are killed by the cops but one comes back. He's shot by Cabot who wants all the cash for himself. Cabot then shoots Norris, but is surprised by Hudson holding a machine gun. She kills him, and the remaining gang members try to figure out how to split the money. At this point, the police surround the house and save Norris, Hudson, and their baby. This is a well made crime thriller, carefully mixing humor with the rougher stuff. It's typical for the period and a fun bit of entertainment. The film opens with a prologue featuring the parents of a kidnapped boy, explaining their anguish over the whole ordeal. What follows was supposed to be an example of how the FBI was attempting to crack down on the recent spree of kidnappings. Reworked as the western, RAWHIDE. leave a comment
