Shoot It: Black, Shoot It: Blue: Review
Moriarty plays a not-too-bright policeman who is seen taking a bribe by a traffic violator and later kills a purse snatcher whom he has caught red-handed. The widow of the dead man, who was black, sues Moriarty for $1 million. He feels assured, however, that a white policeman won't be found guilty of killing a black man. The cop's problems begin to mount when it's discovered that a young black teenager with a passion for filmmaking has recorded the crime on film. He proceeds to tail Moriarty in an effort to make a documentary. In the end, Moriarty is killed in a car crash when another black man shoots out his automobile tire. This independent feature could have been an excellent study of black-white tensions common within big-city police departments. However SHOOT IT... only skims the surface of this sensitive issue, and the result is a meandering, boring police melodrama with stock (though very well-acted) characters. Too much detail is paid to Moriarty's lifestyle and not enough to the relationship between him and the black filmmaker. A real disappointment, particularly from an actor of Moriarty's caliber.
