"Shiralee" is an Australian Aborigine word which means a burden. Finch plays an Australian laborer who drifts around the country looking for work. After a few years he returns to his wife, Sellars, only to find her living with another man. He takes Wilson, their five-year-old daughter, away from this atmosphere and she becomes Finch's shiralee.
