Shipyard Sally

1939, Movie, NR, 77 mins

Pleasant comedy which is mainly a vehicle to display the talents of Fields. She plays the daughter of well-meaning, but irresponsible Howard, the new owner of a pub next to the shipyards. Fields takes over management for her father, doing a fairly good business until the shipyard is closed down. She rallies the workers to march to London but meets with general disapproval. The singer then goes about getting the men's jobs back herself, using a mistake in identity to gain admission to the needed diplomat. One of the film's songs, "Wish Me Luck as You Wave Me Goodbye," later became a favorite marching tune of troops going off to WW II.
