1942, Movie, NR, 63 mins

The training camp for women ambulance drivers during WW II serves as the background for this well-crafted independent feature. Borg plays a former cabaret singer, now in the ambulance corps, who falls in love with Army captain Talbot. Gleason is the tough sergeant responsible for getting the women into shape. The situations make for quite a few laughs through the direction of Yarbrough who, for a change, was given some decent material in Sidney Sheldon's script. Sheldon, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay of THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY SOXER, went on to become a successful novelist in the 1970s. Two of his steamy works, THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT and BLOODLINE, were made into movies. leave a comment
