In trendy British director Danny Boyle's effective psychological thriller, three yuppie Glasgow roommates show their true colors after they come into possession of a suitcase stuffed with cash. Outgoing journalist Alex (Ewan McGregor), flirty doctor Juliet (Kerry Fox) and shy accountant David (Christopher Eccleston) need a fourth roommate and after a lenghty — and sometimes cruel — audition process select Hugo (Keith Allen), who seems cool enough to meet their exacting criteria. Hugo promptly ODs and the roomies discover a bag stuffed with money in his room. Common sense tells them to call the police, but greed prompts them to consider disposing of the corpse and keeping the cash. Conservative David counsels that someone will eventually come looking for all that cash, but Juliet and Alex overrule him. Disposing of the body proves a grisly business, money — as it always does — changes everything and as David predicted, Hugo's old associates eventually come calling. More style than substance, but what style it is! leave a comment
