Coburn plays a card shark, recently released from jail, with a devoted niece in nightclub singer Simms. The two move to Chicago to have a clean go of it. Simms gets a job at a club run by mobster Curtis, while Coburn decides to go behind his niece's back and make a killing at the tables.
