Shadow Of The Law: Review

Trying to protect a lady from her irate husband, Powell inadvertently kills the man. She leaves and Powell is given a life sentence. Through the efforts of his con-artist cell mate, Hurst, Powell escapes and makes his way to a small southern town, where he changes his identity and makes a go of it working in a mill. This includes placing his fingers in a milling machine in order to remove fingerprints. When cell mate Hurst manages to escape, Powell sends him to New York to find the woman who can clear Powell's name. She is now a notorious blackmailer and turns Hurst into the cops before coming after Powell to blackmail him. Powell does not play along and eventually proves his innocence when a New York cop travels to the South to nab Powell, but latches onto the blackmailer instead. Powell is his usual suave self in his portrayal of the convicted man. Though the story suffers from some illogical moments, it moves well and keeps the suspense. Hurst does a good job in adding comedy to the plot. leave a comment
