A hardcore pornographic feature from 1980, FASCINATION, is remade here as an R-rated sex comedy with a raft of porno stars and starlets. Tony (Louie Bonanno) is a hapless Jewish boy from New Jersey who buys a book on sex appeal to perk up his lonely life. His first step is to move out of his parents' house and into a Manhattan apartment. His next door neighbor, Donald (Jeff Eagle), happens to be a writer desperate to sell something. Tony turns his apartment into a seduction den, then sets about finding a woman to seduce. All the while, Donald listens through the wall and soon is turning Tony's misadventures into a series of magazine articles about the "New Jersey Casanova." Basically a bedroom farce, there's nothing especially bad about this film: technical credits are acceptable to good, the script is so standard it's foolproof, and the performances adequate. It never takes off, though, and never delivers the big laughs. leave a comment
