Seventh Heaven

This version of SEVENTH HEAVEN is an uneven remake of the Janet Gaynor-Charles Farrell 1927 picture that had been brought to the screen after the play, which starred Helen Menken, took Broadway by storm in 1922. Stewart never quite convinces anyone he is a Parisian sewer worker living in the slums, and Simon doesn't get a handle on her character under King's uneven direction. Stewart, a cynic, rejects the concept of God and never dreams he could ever fall in love. Simon is a prostitute who is dominated by her cruel sister, Sondergaard.
