An adventure story about the travels and conquests of famous pirate Sir Francis Drake. Drake (Rod Taylor), despite his pirating, is still the undisputed leader of the English fleet. He leads his swashbuckling men in raid after raid against the ships of Spain. He also thwarts an attempt on the Queen's life by King Philip of Spain.
