Slow-moving Russian film that takes a firm grip in the final half. It follows the travels of seven Soviet explorers who set out to the north, searching for rich mineral deposits. A blizzard takes one of their lives and a romance develops between the doctor Kuznetsov and pilot Novoseltzev.
The government steps in at the end, terminating the expedition, but lets the doctor stay and minister to the barely surviving captain of the journey. (In Russian; English subtitles.)
